Sure Start Newcastle Children's Centres takes the evaluations of services and comments you make very seriously. We do everything we can to ensure our services listen to what you have to say. During 2010 - 2011 large evaluations were carried out by The Learning Team across four areas of Newcastle. Sure Start Central Children's Centres also employed The Learning Team to undertake an evaluation and although this was slightly different the findings and recommendations are based on the information received from parents, carers and children. Partners were contacted separately and their responses are also included.

The evaluations used a variety of methods to gather views including:

  • Consultation and questionnaires with parents, carers or grandparents at regular activities
  • Email and postal questionnaires to key partner agencies
  • Case studies gathered by Sure Start Children’s Centres staff
  • Focus groups and graffiti boards

Ofsted Reports

Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills. It inspects Sure Start Children's Centres to ensure that they are improving outcomes for young children and closing the gap between the most disadvantaged children and other children.

These outcomes for children are taken from the Government's Every Child Matters guidance. They are: being healthy; staying safe; enjoying and achieving; making a positive contribution; and achieving social and economic well-being.

Ofsted thoroughly inspect Sure Start Children's Centres with very little notice and then report their findings fairly and truthfully. As part of their inspection they listen to service users, including children, and providers. They make recommendations for any improvements that could be made. Their independence means you can rely on them for impartial information.
