Sure Start North

The Community Involvement workers role involves encouraging parents and carers to take a central role in the development and delivery of Childrens Centre services and activities which result in improved outcomes for families. As a team we ensure parents and carers voices are heard and we support local families and the wider community in actively engaging and contributing in all aspects of the Childrens Centre.

We provide Early Years education to parents and children in a variety of ways. The team have a wealth of experience and skills which are demonstrated both within the centre and out in the community.

Our family support team helps parents, carers and families to make sure their child is safe, well cared for and able to thrive. We also work to make a positive lasting difference in the lives of children and families.

Our Information & Resource worker can give you information, or signpost you to local services who can support you:

• Registering with Sure Start
• Activities and events in your Children's Centre
• Parent and Toddler Groups
• School holiday and leisure activities
• Childcare providers
• Local schools
• City wide and local community support
• Getting back to work
• Benefits & tax credits
• Training and volunteering opportunities
• Completing forms and questionnaires

The Sure Start Speech and Language Therapy team work with families at home and in pre-school settings to provide assessment, intervention and support for children with speech and language difficulties and their families.

A Sure Start Teachers provides support to early years providers around the Early Years Foundation Stage and Every Child Matters framework.

The Childminder Network coordinator’s role is to assess registered childminders for entry into the network and to carry out monitoring every 6-8 weeks in childminders homes. They also to offer advice, information and support and holds a database and up to date general information from the NCMA (National Childminders Association).

Health Visitors are trained nurses working in your community who provide help and support. They can offer you advice on;

• Pregnancy
• Parenting
• Accident prevention
• Child safety
• Stopping smoking
• And lots more

Our admin team work to support the day to day running of the Sure Start Children's Centres and can often be the first point of contact for families.

The Sure Start North Children's Centre Management Team consists of

• A Sure Start Lead
• An Integrated Services Manager (Early Years Co-ordinator)
• A Senior Practitioner
• Community Involvement Coordinator
• Sure Start Manager (Northern Villages, Gosforth and Parklands)

The Management team co-ordinates the services and overall running of the Children's Centre.
