Are you currently looking to learn new skills, gain qualifications, go back into work, make new friends or do something for yourself?

Sure Start Children's Centres offer a selection of short courses and training opportunities at local venues, some with limited free crèche facilities. These short courses are a great way for you to develop either personally or professionally.

We can also signpost you to other courses and training opportunities in the Newcastle area.

A range of 'Family Learning' courses begin each term. These may include:

  • Story Sacks: Bring stories to life and stimulate your child's imagination
  • Early Start: Supporting your child's development through play
  • Cooking on a Budget: Practical cooking skills and budget planning
  • Money Bags: Learning financial skills through play

Other courses available may include:

  • Emergency First Aid courses are often arranged, depending on demand.
  • Infant Massage techniques to relieve colic and constipation and promote sleep can be learnt in Sure Start session for under oness.
  • Baby Makaton signs are frequently taught in Baby Social and other Under One's groups. More intensive support is available for children who have been assessed by a Speach andLanguage therapist.
